About Michael Parkes’ Artwork

Michael’s original paintings are exquisitely detailed and often take months to create, so are in extremely high demand. Michael is a living master of the traditional and dying art of stone lithography. And Michael’s bronze sculptures take his magical figures into the three-dimensional realm. Michael has also created the Aurographic Collection of fine art reproductions for a wider audience of collectors.

Michael Parkes’ Art of Stone Lithography
Michael creates limited edition lithographs drawn on and printed from stones that are hundreds of years old, used by generations of artists. Each color is applied separately, and each final print is unique in some way. All Michael Parkes® stone lithographs are done with Michael’s direct participation – he draws on the stones, hand checks each print, and signs and numbers only those that meet his very exacting standards. Many experts consider hand-drawn limited edition stone lithograph prints to be original works of fine art. The book The Art of Michael Parkes contains a detailed explanation and photographs of the stone lithography process, and is available through our authorized dealers and fine book distributors

The Art of the Aurographics Collection

The Aurographics Collection brings the finest museum quality reproductions of rarely seen paintings and other exquisite Michael Parkes work to a wider audience. The Aurographics Collection includes mixed media prints, giclée prints, and other extremely high quality reproduction techniques and mediums. "Giclée print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. In creating our giclées, Michael works directly with our premier atelier in Holland to create high resolution digital images. At times, Michael will make changes to the digital imagery to make the giclée print unique. Other times, the original is reproduced exactly. The prints are then printed with archival quality inks onto canvas or archival paper, again depending on the effect that Michael desires to achieve for the new work. Giclée prints are gaining widespread acceptance and auction value generally, and appear in several prestigious museum collections, including those of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art. The prints in the Swan King Editions Aurographics Collection represent the highest quality of giclée prints available, and beginning in June, 2007 will be printed only at Re-Art in Amsterdam. Re-Art is the benchmark for all European printers that are working in this medium.
